Note: Each Thursday I post a little something to inspire us to finish the week strong. These Thursday Thoughts vary … a quote, poem, photograph, or video. Congratulations, you made it over the hump and let’s finish the week together.
Garbage night is my favorite day of the week. I wait to the end of the day and near ready for sleep to pull the cans out to the curb. The task takes a few minutes, but typically I linger outside and do not re-enter the house for some time. Why?
I look up and stand in wonder.
Years ago when my family moved to this house out in the suburbs, we discovered that our block has no streetlights. As we are far enough away from city lights, we can see the stars and planets well just outside our home.
I was up early this morning and Orion’s Belt and the planet Jupiter welcomed me from the end of my driveway. Indeed there is an App for that and I use SkyView to help identify the objects in the visible sky.
I never tire of looking up to the night sky. I can get lost in the wonder and my garbage night transforms into a meditation. The night sky reminds me to approach life with a sense of wonder and curiosity and to maintain perspective as I look down to Earth and move forward in my day.
“Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see, and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.” – Stephen Hawking
