Note: Each Thursday I will post a little something to inspire us to finish the week strong. These Thursday Thoughts will be a quote, piece of music, artwork, or inspirational video. Congratulations, you made it over the hump and let’s finish the week together.
I once read that Jazz Music is the only original American art form. I am not an expert in the history or Jazz, but I do love listening to it. The era I love is the late 1950’s through mid 1960’s. Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dave Brubeck are my guys. The last of these three artists, Dave Brubeck, died yesterday. Today would have been his 92nd birthday.
Jazz goes beyond music. There is a flow to it with a small group of musicians feeding each other and blending together to a point where they are creating sometime new. It is art. It truly is a great example of WeMoveTogether.
Yesterday, once I heard of Dave Brubeck’s death, I started to play his album Time Out. An employee walking by my office heard the song Take Five and said, “hey I know that song, what is it called?” It seems everyone has heard Take Five with few knowing who performed the song along with Paul Desmond and his Quartet.
I believe Take Five is the most popular Jazz song of all time.
Dave Brubeck, thanks for your music … your Jazz. Here is a little Take Five for our Thursday.
What do you think?
