Note: Each Thursday I will post a little something to inspire us to finish the week strong. These Thursday Thoughts will be a quote, piece of music, artwork, or inspirational video. Congratulations, you made it over the hump and let’s finish the week together.
I am reading Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck. It is a slow and enjoyable trip. I put the book down and read other books, yet I return for the next chapter as Steinbeck chronicles his journey across America with his dog Charley.
I posted about this book already and I expect to post again as it is full of such vivid imagery and thoughtful prose. He writes of America at the time of my birth.
For today a quote that fits the change of the season, from Summer to Autumn. Here John Steinbeck is writing about the importance of experiencing the cold and dark of winter after a summer of heat and light. As he traveled north he talks to people who dream of moving to Florida, generally speaking a land of sameness.
For how can one know color in perpetual green, and what good is warmth without cold to give it sweetness?
We are better as people and leaders from our experience moving from light to dark and green to brown. Bring on Autumn and Winter.
What do you think?
