Bring on November and the Rest of My Life

New routine. 5:00am. Coffee. Feed cats. Outside and down the driveway.

Look up. Stars, planets and inspiration.

A few minutes pass. I return to the warmth of the house with coffee in hand and cats in tow. I head to my writing spot.

I begin.

I write.

My routine is set.

Few blog entries recently as I prepare for November and joining the legion of writers participating in NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month. Between November 1 to 30 I will write at least 50,000 words as part of a first draft of a novel. I will complete the NaNoWriMo challenge.

I count the days … days are now hours. Forever a writer and maybe someday an author. It starts with the calendar turn to November.

The timing is so right. December represents loss this year. My job and career of 27 years with one company ends. November is my month to begin something new. I dig deep and know to write.

sitbbc_logo_by_sldA couple of years ago I joined the “Six Impossible Things Before Breakfast” club presented to me by fellow blogger Sandy at her blog Another Lovely Day. I knew writing a novel length story would make my list of so-called impossible things. I always loved stories, but only later in life have I decided to simply write and see where it takes me. This blog was my entry point to a writing life.

So now, at this time of great change in my life, I want to write and know all will be fine. With the fun, support and goal setting involved with NaNoWriMo, I found a great approach to starting my first large-scale writing project. I love my story and I need to write it down on paper. The time is perfect.

I will blog off and on throughout the month. Maybe I will share thoughts on the writing process or on something else that catches my eye as I normally do.

So I have a new routine to write early each morning. Yet why do I go outside to view the heavens before I write? Ah, that is at the heart of my story. Let me get to work writing and someday … someday you may read it.

Indeed, nothing is impossible. That is my first thought of the day. Now I need some breakfast.

  1. Good luck completing NaNoWriMo this year. I did this last time round and haven’t looked back. Looking forward to reading about your Nano journey. 🙂

  2. I think you’re bold to take on the NaNo challenge in this time of a big change in your life. I’m sorry about your job. But I liked when you wrote that the timing is perfect. There’s the old saying “when one door closes, another opens” — but it sounds like you’re opening that next door instead of waiting for someone to open it for you. Best wishes on your writing — in NaNo and afterward.
